Magnus Bane - “The High Warlock of Brooklyn”
She knew, then, what had happened, that whatever had come to her in the night in the shape of her husband had not been her husband. When she had realized that, she had not wanted to go on living. And she hadn’t.
The little boy as thrown into the stalls again. His clothes soaking wet. He embraced himself to protect his body from the cold wind in the night. A hard bread was thrown at him. “Here, eat that you son of an abomination,” said a dark voice. Magnus knew it was his father’s voice. “Papa, can I sleep in the house please. I feel sick,” little Magnus pled and did not dare to look up to face the man who just pushed his head beneath the water - again. Magnus never died. Just when he is close to suffercation, something pulls him back and pushes the hand - which desperately tries to end his life - away from him. “Don’t call me that! You are no son of mine. You are not even human. You don’t deserve to be here. You are sick? Good. Die.”
And with that the doors are closed and locked.
Little Magnus crawled onto the hay and wrapped himself in it, hoping it could provide him with at least a little warmth. It was helpless. The only thing that was warm were his tears which fall from his catlike eyes. Magnus stood up and started to scream. Violently rubbing his eyes and crying even more. He wants to rip them out.
He want them gone.
He want himself gone.
Why couldn’t he drown?
